Smartphone users are spending 4.8 hours a day with their device. During this, on an average, they spend an hour of their time watching videos. It was revealed in a report that since the Corona lockdown, the number of such users has crossed 350 million. Compared to 2018 and 2020, the number of such people has increased by 24 percent, which is twice that of China.
In a recent report ‘Online Video in India – Key Aspects’ by management consulting firm Bain & Co, it was revealed that people watched online videos fiercely during the nationwide lockdown during the Corona period. The time people spend watching videos has increased by 60 to 70 percent. According to the report, its figures in India can increase even more rapidly. In India today 60 per cent of internet users watch video online, while in China the figure is over 90 per cent. There are about 640 million internet users in India, of which around 550 million are smartphone users.
People like long videos more It came out in this report that 35 to 40 crore people like to watch long videos more. Whereas people like to watch short videos. The number of people watching long videos has seen a greater increase than before. There has been an increase of about one and a half times in comparison to 2018 to 2020. Since the Corona lockdown, it has been seen that active users are spending more than 2.5 hours daily on the long video platform. Such users are expected to increase from 50 crores to 65 crores by the year 2025. In this report, analysts consider videos ranging from 15 seconds to two minutes in duration as short videos and videos of more than two minutes as long videos.
The video market grew after the arrival of Tiktok, the market of short videos in India started with the arrival of Tiktok. Despite the Chinese company being shut down from the country, the craze of the video is increasing continuously. The number of users on the short video platform is growing by 3.5 times. At the same time, an increase in people’s time spent has also been seen by 12 times. Over 200 million Indians watched short videos at least once in the year 2020. An active user is spending up to 45 minutes on these platforms daily. Big tech companies like Instagram (Facebook), YouTube (Google), Netflix and Amazon Prime are focusing on small and big videos. Apart from this, YouTube, which provides long videos, has also come up with YouTube shots for short videos.
