A 96-year-old former secretary of the Nazi concentration camp was about to be tried in Germany. But before that she has run away. A German court gave this information on Thursday. According to the prosecution, Irmgard Furchner was 18 to 19 years old at the time of the incident. Furchner was living in a house built for the elderly near Hamburg. He is accused of involvement in more than 10,000 murder cases. Because of this he had to be tried in a special youth court.
Irmgaard Furchner is accused of involvement in the murder of prisoners at the Stutthof concentration camp in present-day Poland. In this camp, she worked as a typist and secretary to the camp commander Paul Werner Hoppe between June 1943 and April 1945. At the same time, the president of the court in Itzeho said that the charges have been absconding since Thursday morning. He said that an arrest warrant has been issued against the accused. A court spokesperson said, he left his house this morning itself. She again took a taxi and fled.
Medical test will be done after arrest
Wolf Molkentin, the lawyer for the accused Irmgaard Fürchner, was present in the court, but he did not make any statement before the journalists. On the other hand, the judge asked for some patience as the commencement of trial on Thursday was in doubt. The point to be noted here is that even if the accused is arrested, a medical test will be conducted to determine whether the accused can attend the trial or not. Irmgaard Furchner is the first woman in decades to be tried in Germany for collusion with the Nazis.
100-year-old Nazi camp guard will also face trial
65,000 people were massacred at the Stutthof concentration camp. This included Jewish, Polish and Soviet prisoners of war. All these people were systematically put to death. At the same time, a week after this trial in the court of Itzeho in northern Germany, a 100-year-old former Nazi camp guard will be tried in Sachsenhausen near Berlin. Germany has never before prosecuted so many elderly former Nazis. Significantly, the Nazis had inflicted terrible atrocities on the Jewish people.
