Which country’s wine do people like more? Wine exports reached record level, earning in billions of dollars
The US remains the largest export market for Italian wines. It was followed by Germany and the UK.
People in the country and abroad consume alcohol a lot. Now shocking figures related to liquor export have come out. Wine exports to Italy were recorded last year at a record 7.1 billion euros ($7.8 billion), more than offset by lower exports in 2020 due to the worst period of the coronavirus pandemic. This information has come out from official figures.
According to an analysis by the Qualitya Foundation of Italy’s National Statistics Institute (ISTAT) data, wine exports increased by 12.4 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year, Xinhua news agency reported. This was compared to a year-on-year decrease of 2.2 per cent in 2020.
The Qualivita Foundation said exports to North America grew 16.7 percent, while Asia grew by 22.5 percent between 2020 and 2021. The US remained the largest export market for Italian wine, followed by Germany and the UK. However, news of a spurt in Italian wine exports in 2021 was fueled by a report by consultancy Nomisma published on the same day, which estimated that exports could suffer from a crisis in Ukraine in 2022. Nomisma said wine exports to Russia and Ukraine together account for about 400 million euros in annual sales, or about 6 percent of total exports.
